Back in Tokyo, the excitement continues with a visit to Ueno Park and the Tokyo National Museum, and an immersive experience at TeamLab’s futuristic digital art exhibit. Whether it's the energy of Tokyo’s neon streets or the tranquility of Hakone’s natural beauty, this leg of the journey will immerse you in the true spirit of Japan.
Next you’ll take a bullet train to Kyoto, known as the cultural soul of Japan for its stunning temples, serene gardens and rich history. Start your morning with a peaceful meditation class guided by a Zen Buddhist monk before exploring the magnificent Fushimi Inari Shrine with its famous red torii gates. Stroll through the stunning bamboo forests of Arashiyama, where you can lose yourself in nature. Along the way, you’ll make a stop in Kamakura, where you’ll enjoy some time on the beach. You’ll also take a step back in time when visiting UNESCO heritage sites and historic districts that preserve the charm of old Japan. Before your final night in Kyoto, you’ll take a day trip to visit the Ogi region in Shiga for an eco tour, learning about sustainable practices while taking in the natural beauty of Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest freshwater lake.

Kumamoto brings a taste of adventure and tradition to your journey. Get your adrenaline pumping with a thrilling whitewater rafting experience on the Kuma River. You’ll then explore Kumamoto Castle, one of Japan’s most iconic historical sites, and learn the art of bamboo crafting in a hands-on workshop. You’ll cap off your days in Kumamoto with a fun-filled Karaoke night, singing your heart out with all your new friends.
Next, continue onward to Hiroshima, where you’ll explore the historic Hiroshima Castle and take a guided tour of the Peace Memorial Park and Museum. You’ll hear a powerful peace talk from an A-bomb legacy successor, gaining deep insight into the survivors' experiences and Japan’s nuclear history. From there, head to the peaceful island of Miyajima, where a scenic cable car ride will take you to the summit for breathtaking views, followed by a hike down through the island’s stunning natural landscape. Cap off your visit with an authentic Japanese cooking class where your taste buds will be dancing as you learn to cook your own delicious okonomiyaki, a Japanese savory pancake.
Your adventure comes full circle as you return to Tokyo, where you'll have another chance to soak in the city’s vibrant atmosphere. Savor Tokyo’s unforgettable sights and flavors with your fellow travelers, reliving the highlights of Japan and looking forward to the new experiences awaiting you in Thailand. This day is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the friendships and memories you've made so far and build excitement for the adventures still ahead.
Welcome to Bangkok, the capital of Thailand! After your flight from Tokyo, you'll dive straight into the rich culture and flavors of this historic city. Kayak through Krabi Klong Talen’s ‘Mangrove Maze’, a chain of rock gardens, limestone canyons and semi-hongs surrounded by lush mangroves and abundant wildlife. In Koh Phi Phi, whether you choose to snorkel or SCUBA in the emerald waters of this paradise, you will see exotic fish, sea turtles and coral. Enjoy a second snorkeling opportunity at Chicken & Poda Islands. Spend a day at Ao Nang Beach where you can relax on the white sands, swim in the crystal waters, join in on water sports, or explore the vibrant beachfront lined with shops and restaurants. (For your safety, all SCUBA operators restrict participants with certain medical conditions. Please ask about your own circumstances if applicable.)
Your journey wraps up with a flight back to Bangkok, where you’ll travel south of the city to venture to the wetlands and explore the canal communities and the floating markets. At your rooftop farewell banquet dinner, enjoy a laugh with friends as we reminisce and reflect on all that you have learned, seen, tasted, and experienced. Meals & New Cuisines
Part of the excitement of traveling to Asia is diving into the incredible local cuisine, so come with an open mind and a taste for adventure! In Japan, you’ll savor everything from fresh sushi and hearty ramen to savory okonomiyaki and sizzling yakiniku (Japanese BBQ). In Thailand, your taste buds will tingle with authentic spicy dishes, fresh fruits, vegetables, and many noodle dishes. Whether you’re enjoying street food in Bangkok or indulging in a traditional meal in Japan, each meal is an opportunity to experience the local culture. Please note picky eaters may get frustrated as there are limited North-American style options available in Japan.
Dietary Restrictions & Allergies
Although we aim to satisfy the choosiest of eaters and most dietary requests, there are challenges in Japan. Due to the limited options, we cannot accommodate participants with Celiac disease, or those that adhere to a strictly gluten free or vegan diet.
Fish, sesame and soy are common ingredients in Japanese cuisine. Due to the frequency they are served and likelihood for cross contamination, we cannot accommodate participants with an anaphylactic allergy to fish, sesame or soy. We strongly discourage participants with a non-anaphylactic allergy to these ingredients from traveling to Japan in general and may require a doctor’s note clearing you to participate in this program.
We welcome hearing from you to discuss your individual allergy and dietary restrictions.
Vaccinations & Medication Restrictions
We recommend you follow the advice of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and consult with your physician for current immunizations and medication required for travelers to Japan. These recommendations may change from time to time.
Most medications are permitted in Japan with no paperwork or permission required if the total amount brought is less than a 1 month supply. This includes Psychotropics. Make sure that all medicines are brought in the original packaging/container in your carry-on luggage. All prescription medications should be accompanied by a doctor’s note. No need to declare them at Customs.
For medications containing a narcotic or stimulant, you must apply for/receive a permit before your Japan arrival regardless of the quantity brought. Please let us know if your teen is traveling with any medication containing an active ingredient on this list: Narcotics/Stimulants
The medication Adderall is NOT allowed to be brought into Japan by law. We suggest that participants who take this medicine consult with their doctor for alternative medication during their Japan trip. For more information, please visit the following links: Application Guidance and Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan
Drinking Water
In Japan, tap water is among the safest in the world and is perfectly fine to drink. You’ll have access to clean, filtered water at all accommodations during your stay. In Thailand, we will have large containers of clean water for you to fill up your own water bottles as needed.
Laundry
You will only need one week’s worth of clothing as outlined in the packing list that will be sent to you prior to departure. You may drop off your laundry at a local wash and fold service and then pick it up clean, folded and ready to go.

What is the difference between an Active Teen Tour and a Global Adventure program?
Our Active Teen Tours offer larger group sizes (generally 35-48 participants) and travel in deluxe motor coaches. Accommodations include quality hotels and occasional fun college residences.
Global Adventures are smaller group experiences (generally up to 26 participants on all itineraries other than the 17, 20 or 25-day Greece & Italy, 20-day Greece & Portugal or 10-day Greek Islands, which varies from 24-36 participants.)
Groups travel by private motor coaches and occasional public transportation internationally, and use passenger vans in the USA. Select European programs travel exclusively by train and public transportation. While these programs have a slightly bigger focus on adventure travel, we stay in quality hotels and lodges, always ensuring a good night’s rest.
