For the first time in six years, the Dancing Fountains of the Bellagio, Las Vegas’ number one free attraction, will have some new moves when our western Active Teen Tours visit them this summer.

Some of the new songs include the Beatle’s Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean and Glenn Miller’s In the Mood.

The fountains are located in an 8.5 acre body of water, illuminated by just over 5,000 white lights (color lights were nixed during the initial installation). There are 798 minishooters, 208 swaying oarsmen who have a full range of spherical motion, 192 super shooters that blast water up to 240’ into the air and 16 extreme shooters that blast water up to 460’ into the air. A fog system can create an ambiance in the lake.

The whole production is managed daily by a team of 30 including divers who fish out coins and wedding rings frequently. All monies collected are donated to Habitat for Humanity. Once, someone threw in a catfish that was a pain to catch. Boats are also available to rescue anyone who decides to go for a swim.

The show takes place every 30 minutes in the afternoons and evenings, and every 15 minutes from 8 pm to midnight. Before the production, the nozzles break the water surface and the lights illuminating the Bellagio towers turn to a purple hue or red, white and blue.

Don’t miss this spectacle on our California Sprint, California & The Canyons, Californian Extravaganza, U.S. Explorer, American Voyageur, Adventurer, California Dreaming, Ultimate California and Hawaiian Spirit programs.

Dear Families of California & The Canyons,

We hope you’ve all had a nice reunion with your teens.  Here is a final update from their staff…

As we sit here at the final banquet, it is hard to believe that three incredible weeks have flown by so quickly. From Chinatown and the Golden Gate Bridge to waterskiing in Tahoe, we all met new people and started to form new friendships. We then enjoyed our first camping experiences and sat by the campfire as we continued to bond. From making movies at Universal Studios to LA hotspots in Hollywood and Beverley Hills, we caught a glimpse of the celebrity lifestyle. In San Diego, we visited the zoo and got the chance to surf, which was a trip highlight for many. In Las Vegas, we experienced thrill rides and the bright lights of the strip.  And then on to Bryce Canyon, the Grand Canyon and Sedona where we were fortunate enough to experience some of the most breathtaking views in the entire country.  It has truly been a whirlwind of an adventure!

We spent our last day together relaxing by the pool and soaking in the last opportunities to enjoy each other’s company. We began our banquet this evening tying friendships bracelets around our wrists and sharing all our favorite memories from the trip. After a delicious last meal, we continued the night with dancing and writing final goodbye letters to one another. We had the wonderful opportunity to Skype with staff Matt who had only joined us for the first two weeks of the trip. And we concluded the night with an unforgettable slideshow that showcased the highlights of our journey playing to the music from our morning mix.

The friendships we have made will surely last a lifetime. It has been an honour and a pleasure to get to know each and every trip member.

Sincerely,
Jesse, Kristen, Monica, Lauren and Elliot (& Matt!)

Dear Families of California & The Canyons,

After an amazing time in LA, we were on our way to beautiful San Diego. Before even checking into our hotel, we wasted no time and headed straight to the beach for surfing lessons! After an orientation on land to teach us the basics of the sport, we grabbed our boards and hit the waves where Ben S. and Gabriella wowed us when they surfed all way back to shore. As we were surfing, Olivia caught a glimpse of dolphins swimming in the distance. Back on shore, Joelle, Julia and Alice relaxed in the sand and took in the amazing view. Marc borrowed a guitar from one of the surfing instructors and played it for everyone.

For dinner, we ate at Islands where we decided to have a twin night and everyone needed to find a person on the trip to match with. Arianna and Elisa posed as perfectly coordinating twins, while Zach, Dan and Jason S. dressed as triplets. After dinner, we returned to the hotel where we shared some laughs when we played the dating game and Chloe and Zach ended up as a perfect pair.

Our second day in San Diego started with a trip to the San Diego Zoo. We began our visit with a double-decker bus tour through the park where we caught a glimpse elephants, grizzly bears, giraffes and more. Matt L., Clay, Jason S. and Jacob continued to explore the park as they got a bird’s eye view of the animals on the sky tram. Alex M., Ben S, Nick, Jack and Adam K. got an up close look at the pandas while Raina, Cassidy, Carly and Risa put on their best animal impersonations after getting their faces painted. Brian won a stuffed dog from a “claw” machine that he named Stefane and which has now joined Delilah as another bus mascot.

Later that night, we all had a blast playing laser tag where Austin L. and Joelle received the highest scores. At the end of the night and our time in San Diego, we tearfully said goodbye to Niki P., Sophie, Ben B., David Y., Jason A. and Austin L. who only joined us for the California portion of the trip.

After San Diego, we headed to Las Vegas. On the bus ride, we played an entertaining game of Humzinger where we took turns humming a tune while the rest of the group tried to guess the song. Alex P. did a great job of humming “Baby” by Justin Bieber and Carly immediately guessed the correct answer. After settling into the amazing Monte Carlo hotel, we feasted on a delicious Italian dinner and then headed for the Stratosphere.  The Stratosphere is a really tall hotel with a viewing tower and thrilling rides at the top of the building. Matt S., Eric, David R. and Joelle were brave enough to face the world’s tallest ride ‘The Big Shot’, while Emily O., Nikki B. and Courtney rode ‘X-Scream.’  Brooke, Gabriella, David S. and Jake then dared to ride ‘Insanity’. Everyone had tons of fun!

After taking in the breathtaking views of the Vegas lights atop of the tower, we explored the Venetian hotel.  Everyone was amazed by how well the hotel looks exactly like Venice, Italy. As we watched passing gondolas in the hotel’s indoor canals, Adam F. and Alex M. enjoyed a traditional Italian gelato. We then walked down the Las Vegas strip and were amazed by all the luxurious hotels such as Caesar’s Palace and The Bellagio.  We were all front and center for the water dancing show outside the Bellagio – what a sight!  Elisa, who is from Paris, got a taste of home as she posed for pictures in front of the Paris hotel which has a replica of the Eiffel Tower. The following day the group had some free time to enjoy the hotel’s incredible swimming pools and lazy river.  Eric, Marc, Emily O. and Dave R. also took advantage of the hotel’s wave pool. Later that evening, we headed to the New York, New York hotel which has restaurants setup to look like the streets of NYC.   Following dinner we had a blast in the Gameworks arcade where we played the night away.

The next day we drove to Bryce Canyon for our last two nights of camping.  Before arriving at the campsite we stopped for a Chuckwagon Cookout where everyone dressed up as cowboys and Indians and reenacted a traditional western motion picture, complete with sound effects and background music.  Raina and Carly played the coyotes; Jack was the fiddler; Courtlyn and Emily H were some of the Indians; Jake, Matt S and Brooke were the cowboy and cowgirl; and Alex M played the villain.

Upon arrival in Bryce, the group was split up into two teams for some fun campsite programming.  For the next two days everyone got really involved in the competitions.  Eric and Arianna were the winners of “Bite the Bag”.  Emily O. and David S took Trip Director Jesse’s challenge of learning all the lyrics to Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire”.  Alysa took the lead in a dance-off. Bobby and Nick were the head writers of their team skits.

We took a break from all the excitement to hike down Bryce Canyon whose postcard perfect views took everyone’s breath away.  All the trip members had a creative time posing for “epic photos” on the hike – check them out!  Everyone felt quite accomplished when they arrived at the bottom. In the late afternoon everyone participated in a giant relay race that was quite hysterical.  After a scrumptious stir-fry dinner, we laughed the night away making banana boats (yummmmmy! – ask your kids for the recipe) around our final campfire for the trip.

It’s hard to believe that our trip is coming to an end but we are looking forward to the Grand Canyon, Sedona and our finale in Scottsdale.

Dear Families of California & The Canyons,

What a jam packed four days we had in Los Angeles!  We left the campsite and headed straight to Universal Studios. We started with a studio back lot tour where we saw a behind-the-scenes look where they filmed several blockbuster hits. Jack, Jason S. and Austin G. had front row seats as we witnessed the sets of famous films including How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Psycho. Our tour also took us through Wisteria Lane, the set of Desperate Housewives, where they were completing a live taping. Carly was really excited to see the trailers of the Desperate Housewives cast.  As the day continued, the group explored the rest of the park and went on thrilling attractions including The Simpsons and Jurassic Park The Ride. Marc, Brian, Dave, Eric, Emily, Ben and Alex P. particularly enjoyed The Mummy attraction and went on five times throughout the day!

After a fun filled day at the park, we ate at the Hard Rock CafĂ©, a restaurant notorious for the Rock & Roll memorabilia that decorate the establishment’s walls. While we were eating, Trip Director Jesse provided us with some dinner entertainment when he sang all of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” as the entire group cheered him on! After dinner, we had the opportunity to explore Universal’s CityWalk. Jake and Alex M. bought light up skate wheels and showed the entire group their impressive moves. Bobby provided some hilarious entertainment when he purchased a balloon animal of Elmo and Cookie Monster reenacting a scene from “Scarface”. With the help of Dave R., Marc, Brian and Alex P., they had fun asking passersby what they believed the balloon animals were doing and plan to assemble a short film with these entertaining interviews. Matt S. also put on his best Matt Damon impersonation as he posed for the cover of a fake magazine. At the end of the evening, Courtlyn, Arianna, Chloe and Nikki B. had a blast teaching staff Lauren and Kristen the dance moves to Miley Cyrus’ Hoedown Throwdown.

Our second day in LA started with a visit to famed Rodeo Drive where we were hopeful for celebrity sightings and were excited for some window-shopping. We then returned to UCLA where the trip members had a true taste of college life – after a visit to the UCLA bookstore, the group had the option of heading to the pool or the gym.  Everyone had a blast using the university’s facilities. While Adam F., Austin L. and Ben B. relaxed by the pool, others including Joelle, Alisa and Zach enjoyed the gym. Katherine, Adam, Matt L and Jacob also took full advantage of the gym and played a few rounds of racquetball.  Dan, Josh, Jack and Dave R. were psyched to have played basketball with the running back of the UCLA Bruins! To end the night, we shared some laughs at the LA Improv where Eric was all smiles as he was highlighted in the show. Once the performances were done, David Y., Jacob, Bobby and Dan were lucky enough to meet some of the comedians from the evening.

Our third day in LA began with a visit to the renowned Museum of Tolerance, which places a particular focus on political, racial and ideological tolerance. As we toured the museum, we learned about bullying, hate crimes from around the world and the problem of child labor that still exists today. The experience was truly eye opening and one that will surely not be forgotten. On the bus ride to our next activity (exploring Venice beach), we drove by Venice Beach High School which was the set of Rydell High where the classic motion picture Grease was filmed. As we sang our favorite songs from the musical, Raina shared that she once played the role of Frenchie in her school’s production of Grease!  The trip members had a blast exploring Venice beach as they admired the lively street entertainers and vendors. Julia and Joelle got colored feathers in their hair while Olivia, Cassidy, Sophie and Niki P. got artistic henna tattoos. Nick, Jack, Ben S. and Jason S. also had the opportunity to snap a picture with basketball player Wesley Johnson from the Minnesota Timberwolves! We then brought the day to a close by visiting Hollywood where we strolled down the Walk of Fame and saw Mann’s Chinese Theatre where we compared handprints with famous stars such as Julie Andrews and Harrison Ford. Risa enjoyed matching handprints with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rubert Grint, the stars of the Harry Potter franchise. As a late night surprise, we then went to Diddy Riese to indulge in their famous and extremely delicious ice cream sandwiches!

On our fourth and final day in LA, we visited the much-anticipated Disneyland. While some trip members including Jared, Matt L., Jason A. and Zach enjoyed rides such as Space Mountain, Splash Mountain and Indiana Jones, others took more enjoyment in walking through the park in search of famous Disney characters. Carly was most excited about meeting a Disney princess and took a walking tour through Sleeping Beauty’s castle. Alysa put on her best princess impersonation as she wore the blonde wig from the film Tangled and posed in pictures with Alice who sported a pink tiara. Emily H., Gabriella and Olivia continued the dress up theme as they wore Minnie Mouse ears throughout the park. After exploring the park’s attraction, we all watched Disney’s unforgettable fireworks show that featured our favorite Disney tunes and characters – it was truly the perfect way to bring our magical day at Disneyland and unforgettable time in LA to and end!

All the best,

Dear Families of California & The Canyons,

We have just finished Day 7 of our trip and there is no end in sight to the amazing time that we are having! While we have only known each other for one week, it feels like we have known one another forever. Not a moment goes by where laughs are not heard and smiles are not seen!

After an unforgettable couple of days in San Francisco, we headed to our first campsite in Lake Tahoe. On the bus ride to our destination, we enjoyed the company of our new mascot Delilah, a doll that Brooke, Gabriella, Josh, Nikki B. and David S. won in our game of “Trade it up” back in Sausalito. On our way to Tahoe, we enjoyed some white water rafting. Austin L. and Jason A. did a fantastic job of skillfully leading their rafts through the rapids. Once we arrived at Lake Tahoe, we set up our tents and enjoyed a delicious dinner. After settling in, we played the name game “Bang!” – Courtlyn impressed us all by being able to name everyone on the trip and was the game’s winner! After dark, we all indulged in some s’mores and shared laughs by the campfire.

Day 5 of our trip was another eventful day where we had the opportunity to enjoy more of Lake Tahoe. Trip members were able to go waterskiing, tubing and wakeboarding while enjoying the breathtaking view of the snowcapped mountains in the distance. While Ben S. and Adam F. had a blast tubing, Alex P. had an incredible experience waterskiing. He was able to get up on his water-skis and did such a great job that he is now planning to join a waterskiing club when he returns home! Similarly, Matt S tried wakeboarding for the first and can’t wait to try it again when he returns home.  Jacob also water-skied while Clay wake boarded and both were amazed by how crystal clear the water was. When taking a break from the water activities, others relaxed on the beach. Nick and David S. constructed a realistic replica of Lake Tahoe in the sand while Eric helped to complete the impressive project. Jared also showed us all his football skills while Emily O. and Marc had fun burying a smiling Ben B. in the sand.

Toward the end of the day we boarded a catamaran for a sunset cruise on Lake Tahoe – what an incredible end to a perfect day.  All the trip members were lounging on the deck appreciating the breathtaking scenery.  The real fun started when we played our morning mix – David Y., Carly and Cassidy entertained everyone with their dance moves and then Austin G. and Adam K. joined in and led a conga line. We finished the night with a delicious stir fry dinner followed by campfire games and chocolate fondue.

The next two days were spent camping in Ventura beach. We spent the afternoon on the beach, our first taste of the Pacific Ocean.  It was a beautiful day and everyone enjoyed their time there.  Dave R. and Arianna took a dip in the refreshing water while some of the boys had an intense match of beach soccer – the winning team was Nick, Matt L., Jake, Clay, Jason S., Adam F., Jacob and Zack.  We returned to the campsite for a BBQ dinner of steak, salmon and chicken before heading to the movies (Jason S., Ben S. and Jack consoled staff member Lauren who was crying throughout Harry Potter) which was a great way to end our first week with so many new friends.

Until next time!
